Rukia Baruti is the founder and Managing Director of AILA and a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Geneva on Investment Law in Africa, focusing on the regulation of foreign investment in Southern and Eastern Africa. Prior to founding AILA, Rukia practised law at SJ Berwin’s International Arbitration Group in London where she was involved in the arbitration and litigation of commercial disputes, a majority of which were international in nature. She also sits as arbitrator in arbitrations conducted under various arbitration rules. Rukia was listed in The Lawyer magazine's ‘Hot 100’, in recognition of her pro-bono work for Africa. She holds a first class LLB (Hons) degree from the University of London, an MA in Diplomatic Studies and a Graduate Diploma in International Studies with an emphasis on public international law and international relations.
